Auburn PD handled nearly 2,700 calls in April as domestic incidents, suspicious incidents remained major workload drivers

The Auburn Police Department responded to 2,680 calls for service in April, while officers investigated dozens of domestic violence cases, mental health incidents and property crimes across the city, according to the department’s latest monthly activity report.

The report shows police made 60 adult arrests and executed 27 warrants during the month, while year-to-date calls for service reached 9,558 through the end of April.

Domestic violence investigations remained one of the department’s most frequent categories of serious incidents, with officers handling 66 cases in April and 285 so far this year. Police also investigated 22 harassment complaints and two order of protection violations during the month.

Property crimes continued generating a significant number of investigations. Officers handled 30 larceny cases, eight criminal mischief complaints and three burglary investigations in April.

The report also highlights ongoing public safety and quality-of-life demands facing the department. Officers investigated 164 suspicious activity complaints, 68 reports involving disorderly conduct, fights or noise complaints, and 30 mental health-related incidents during the month.

Police also reported five overdose investigations and 14 suicide attempt investigations in April.

Traffic enforcement remained active citywide, with officers conducting 594 traffic stops and issuing 292 traffic tickets during the month. Police also investigated 61 motor vehicle accidents, including six involving personal injury.

The department’s School Resource Officer program responded to 102 incidents involving school buildings and school-related activity. According to the report, those incidents included criminal cases, fights, bullying complaints, property checks and other disruptive behavior.

Investigators in the department’s Detective Bureau were assigned 35 new cases in April and closed 73 previously assigned investigations. The bureau also made five arrests and applied for one warrant during the month.

The Identification Bureau processed 99 evidence and property items and monitored compliance involving 146 registered sex offenders residing within the city, including 82 direct contacts with offenders during April.

Police officials said the department also coordinated 1,095 hours of officer training during the month, including emergency response training, crisis intervention instruction, drone training and police academy participation for new recruits.

Outside enforcement activity, officers participated in several community events during April, including the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Emerson Park, SAVAR’s “Take Back the Night” event and a prescription drug take-back initiative in partnership with Wegmans.
