Residents near Geneva General Hospital may notice smoke, flames, emergency vehicles and helicopter activity Saturday morning as the City of Geneva Fire Department conducts a large-scale training exercise alongside several mutual aid departments.
City officials said the scheduled training will take place near the hospital landing zone and will include Mercy Flight helicopter operations as well as live fire exercises using a propane training prop.
Officials emphasized there is no emergency and said the exercise is part of ongoing firefighter preparedness and interagency training efforts.
The training area will be closed to the public during the exercise. Residents and visitors are being asked to avoid the immediate area and follow directions from emergency personnel on scene.
City officials said the exercise is intended to help firefighters and emergency responders maintain readiness for real-world emergency situations.
