Yates County deputies join statewide ‘Click It or Ticket’ enforcement campaign

Drivers in Yates County can expect increased seat belt enforcement patrols through the end of May as the sheriff’s office participates in the statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign.

The Yates County Sheriff’s Office said deputies will conduct high-visibility enforcement efforts from May 11 through May 31 targeting drivers and passengers not wearing seat belts.

Officials said motorists who are observed unbelted can expect to be stopped and ticketed as part of the campaign, which is aimed at reducing traffic fatalities and injuries.

The sheriff’s office emphasized that seat belts remain one of the most effective protections during crashes and said proper use is critical for both drivers and passengers in every seating position.

According to the department, roughly half of all passenger vehicle deaths nationwide still involve people who were not wearing seat belts.

Deputies also reminded motorists that seat belts should fit properly, with shoulder straps positioned across the chest and lap belts worn across the hips rather than the stomach.

The enforcement initiative is part of a broader national traffic safety campaign coordinated around the Memorial Day travel period.
