Yankees homer three times, Max Fried tosses six scoreless in series-opening win over Rangers

Max Fried delivered six scoreless innings while the New York Yankees backed him with three home runs in a 4-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Monday night at Globe Life Field, as New York improved to 19-10.

Ben Rice sparked the offense in the third inning, launching his 10th home run of the season before Aaron Judge followed with a solo shot on the very next pitch. The back-to-back blasts put the pair in rare company in franchise history for early-season power production. Jazz Chisholm Jr. added a towering solo homer in the fourth, continuing his recent surge at the plate.

Fried navigated traffic early before settling in, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out five across six innings. He erased a baserunner with a key pickoff in the fourth and continued his stretch of consistently working deep into games.

The bullpen allowed late runs, including a seventh-inning solo homer and another in the ninth after an error extended the inning, but New York held on. Judge reached base in all four plate appearances, adding two doubles to his home run as he paced the offense.

Box Score

The Yankees continue the series Tuesday with first pitch set for 8:05 p.m. Cam Schlittler is scheduled to start against Jacob deGrom.
