Law enforcement activity in Seneca County remained steady through the first three months of 2026, with thousands of calls, more than 140 arrests, and several notable investigations highlighted in the Sheriff’s Office quarterly report.
The agency released its first quarter report this month, outlining trends across patrol, corrections, criminal investigations, and courthouse security operations from January through March.
Patrol deputies handled 6,923 total incidents during the quarter, including 1,070 traffic stops and 325 traffic tickets issued. Deputies also investigated 108 accidents. Arrest activity included 143 total arrests and 205 charges filed, with 12 driving while intoxicated arrests reported over the three-month period.
Monthly totals show January and March as the busiest months, with more than 2,300 incidents each, compared to just over 2,100 in February.
At the Seneca County Correctional Facility, 163 individuals were committed during the quarter, including 115 males and 48 females. The facility also logged 147 transports, ranging from court appearances to medical and other appointments. Jail staff served more than 16,800 meals over the three months, while housing-related revenue totaled more than $105,000.
The Criminal Investigation Division handled 96 calls for service, resulting in 27 arrests and 39 charges. The sheriff’s office also reported 30 new narcotics cases, with five arrests and nine charges tied to those investigations.
Among the division’s highlights, investigators executed a search warrant that led to the seizure of fentanyl, cannabis, and more than $120,000. Deputies also identified and arrested a juvenile who made a threat against a local school, and 18 people were arrested on welfare fraud-related charges during the quarter.
Civil enforcement activity remained active, with deputies handling a mix of evictions, summonses, and income executions. The office also reported steady growth in pistol permit transactions and records requests, including an increase in Freedom of Information Law requests.
Courthouse and county building security operations screened thousands of visitors throughout the quarter, with activity increasing month to month. Officers also reported multiple contraband items seized during routine screening.
The report also highlighted agency-wide efforts, including continued accreditation, officer training, school safety coordination, and community outreach initiatives such as coffee events and safety meetings.
