Syracuse man indicted after machete attack in Auburn

A Syracuse man is facing felony charges after prosecutors say he swung a machete at another person outside a county building in Auburn.

A Cayuga County grand jury indicted Daniel Myvett, 35, on one count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon tied to an April 14 incident outside the Department of Social Services on Genesee Street.

Authorities allege Myvett used the machete during an altercation, though details about the victim’s condition have not been released.

Because the charge is non-bail eligible under New York law, Myvett remains out of custody. He is expected to be arraigned at a later date.

If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of 3 ½ to 7 years in prison.
