The Cornell Big Red women’s outdoor track and field team competed on Tuesday at the Egan Family Complex Track and Field Facility in Ithaca, New York, delivering a strong performance in the venue’s first outdoor meet as multiple event winners set inaugural facility records.
Cornell set the tone early on the track, highlighted by Justine Hounsell’s victory in the 400 meters with a time of 57.50. Sharlyn Ramirez-Castillo added a runner-up finish in the event and also contributed in the 200 meters, where Belle Bennett and Monika Vargas placed second and third. The Big Red dominated the 800 meters, sweeping the top three spots behind Ivory Piskula’s winning effort, with Sade Falese and Emma O’Day close behind. O’Day later captured another win in the 1,500 meters, leading a group that placed multiple runners among the top finishers.
Cornell continued to pile up results in the hurdles and field events. Bennett secured a second-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles, while Audrey Hubbell, Vargas and Jodi Parrott added depth. In the field, Syna Sony claimed the high jump title and Johanna Stuard followed in second. Avery Hilliard won the pole vault, with Lauren Cashman and Kelly Regan also placing among the leaders. Elizabeth Graham added a win in the triple jump, while Rebecca Griebel finished second. Lauren Smith and Falese each contributed runner-up finishes in the throws.
Cornell will return to action on Thursday when it begins competition at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
