Hitting a pothole this winter could finally get your repair bill covered under a new proposal from Jeremy Cooney, according to the Hornell Evening Tribune.
Right now, drivers can only seek compensation from the state between May and mid-November. Cooney wants to extend that year-round, matching rules for local roads. The catch: the pothole must already be reported for the state to be liable.
The push comes as Kathy Hochul rolls out a $600 million plan to fix about 44,000 potholes. Lawmakers say the change could ease costly repairs as road damage continues to rise statewide.
