Rising school costs could swallow New York’s proposed aid increases, with an education expert warning the system is overdue for an overhaul, according to Spectrum News.
Bob Lowry said many districts may see gains wiped out by expenses like health insurance, especially under Kathy Hochul’s plan that limits most districts to a 1% minimum increase. Lawmakers have pushed for closer to 2%, but key details remain unsettled.
Lowry also flagged deeper issues with the Foundation Aid formula, noting parts of it haven’t been updated in over a decade — or even 20 years — raising concerns it no longer works as intended as budget talks continue.
