Mets swept by Dodgers as losing streak reaches eight

The New York Mets were swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers following an 8-2 loss on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium, extending their losing streak to eight games as offensive struggles continued to define the skid. New York has scored just 12 runs during the stretch, including six in one game, and once again could not keep pace against a strong Dodgers lineup.

Shohei Ohtani kept the Mets’ bats quiet for much of the night, striking out 10 over six innings while allowing just one run. The only New York hitter to consistently find success was MJ Melendez, who made his team debut and recorded two doubles. His second extra-base hit drove in a run and snapped Ohtani’s lengthy scoreless streak, but the Mets failed to build on the opportunity. A baserunning miscue earlier in the inning cost New York a chance to load the bases with no outs, limiting what could have been a pivotal rally.

Clay Holmes provided a solid effort on the mound, allowing two runs over five innings, with the damage coming on a two-run home run in the second. The Mets remained within striking distance before the game slipped away late. In the eighth inning, Devin Williams struggled in a rare non-save appearance, allowing a grand slam that broke the game open. The Dodgers added another home run later in the inning to put the contest out of reach.

New York finished with five hits and went 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position, continuing a trend of missed opportunities during the losing streak.

Box Score

The Mets will look to get back in the win column when they open a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs on Friday at 2:20 p.m. at Wrigley Field.
