Auburn man charged after violating court order during eviction

A court-ordered eviction in the city led to the arrest of an Auburn man who deputies say was barred from the property under an existing order of protection.

Richard DiMaria, 48, was charged with second-degree criminal contempt, a misdemeanor, following the incident on West Street on April 10, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were at the residence around 9:30 a.m. to carry out the eviction when they encountered DiMaria inside the home. Authorities said a deputy recognized him from a prior interaction in which he had been served with a full stay-away order of protection that prohibited him from being at the location.

DiMaria was taken into custody at the scene and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing before being arraigned in Auburn City Court. He was released on his own recognizance.
