Housing push targets review delays tied to SEQR

A key housing advocate is backing efforts to speed up construction across New York, saying current rules slow critical projects, according to Spectrum News.

Gov. Kathy Hochul’s proposal would reform the state’s environmental review process, allowing certain housing developments to bypass lengthy reviews if they pose minimal impact. Supporters say the changes would cut delays and add predictability.

Advocates argue the current system has blocked needed housing for decades. The plan also includes a proposed $150 million fund to help maintain existing affordable units, as budget negotiations continue in Albany.
