A state senator is calling a proposal to move a regional welcome center to Auburn a political move, according to The Citizen. Sen. Mark Walczyk argued the plan benefits a Democrat-leaning site and said the current Syracuse location at Destiny USA draws far more visitors.
Sen. Rachel May, who sponsors the bill, pushed back and said the effort is about economic development and correcting the state’s earlier decision to abandon Auburn as the original site.
The Senate passed the bill 47–15 with some Republican support. It now heads to the Assembly, where it has stalled without a floor vote.
