Police arrested an Auburn teen after investigators said an argument inside the Fingerlakes Mall led to a stabbing in the parking lot.
James T. Rio, 18, of Auburn, was taken into custody following the March 7 incident.
New York State Police responded to the mall around 4:37 p.m. for a report of a menacing complaint involving a knife and a possible stabbing.
Investigators said Rio and a 19-year-old man began arguing near the arcade and pool area inside the mall.
As the victim left the building, police said Rio followed him, struck him with a pool stick and then displayed a knife while chasing him into the parking lot.
Authorities said Rio caught up with the victim and stabbed him in the right side of the chest.
The victim suffered a small puncture wound that police described as non-life-threatening.
Troopers later located Rio walking near a nearby business and took him into custody without incident.
Rio was charged with second-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and second-degree menacing.
He was transported to the Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment. Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
