Troopers: Major drug seizure leads to two arrests in Wolcott

A late-night traffic stop on State Route 104 in Wayne County led to the seizure of heroin, crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to New York State Police.

David L. Liechti, 43, of Wolcott, and Rose Nageldinger, 22, of Port Byron, were both taken into custody following the stop in the town of Wolcott.

Troopers stopped a 2011 Honda around 10:50 p.m. on March 5 for a vehicle and traffic violation. Police identified Liechti as the driver.

A records check revealed Liechti had an active probation warrant out of Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. Authorities in Pennsylvania confirmed they would extradite him.

During the investigation and a vehicle inventory, troopers said they found about 15.4 grams of suspected heroin and about 3.24 grams of suspected crack cocaine. Police also seized packaging materials, digital scales, glass smoking devices and $1,028 in cash.

Nageldinger, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also taken into custody after troopers reported finding controlled substances in her possession.

Liechti was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class C felony; fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony; seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor; tampering with physical evidence, a Class E felony; and two counts of criminally using drug paraphernalia in the second degree, a misdemeanor. He was also held on the fugitive from justice warrant from Pennsylvania.

Nageldinger faces the same drug possession, tampering and drug paraphernalia charges.

Both were transported to the Wayne County Jail for centralized arraignment. Liechti was additionally remanded on the Pennsylvania warrant.

State police said the investigation remains ongoing.
