Texas has built more wind and solar power in the past two years than New York added in the last two decades, according to the Times Union.
Researchers say Texas moves faster because of lighter regulations, fewer local objections, and early investments in transmission lines that carry energy from rural areas to cities. New York faces slower permitting, higher construction costs, and local moratoriums that can delay or block projects.
State leaders are now debating how to speed up renewable development as New York struggles to meet climate law targets requiring 70% renewable electricity by 2030 and a fully clean grid by 2040.
