Geneva to host Women’s Day rally

Activists in Geneva will mark International Women’s Day with workshops, a rally and a march this weekend.

The Geneva Women’s Assembly and Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ Students for Humanitarian Justice will host the events Sunday, March 8, across locations on Castle Street.

Organizers said the event is the ninth annual International Women’s Day gathering in Geneva. Activities begin at 12:30 p.m. with lunch and tabling by local grassroots organizations at 22 Castle St.

An opening plenary from 1 to 1:30 p.m. will feature guest speaker Gabriella Szpunt, New York organizing coordinator for the United Farm Workers.

Workshops scheduled from 1:30 to 3:40 p.m. will focus on organizing skills, including know-your-rights training, media training, protest art, marshal training and rally speech preparation.

A rally and march will begin at 4 p.m. at Geneva City Hall on Castle Street.

Organizers said the event is intended to bring together community members and activists to build organizing skills and mark International Women’s Day.
