A looming landfill shutdown is forcing town leaders in Seneca to rethink their finances. The town is preparing for the Ontario County landfill’s planned 2028 closure, which could erase a major revenue stream, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Seneca receives payments from landfill operator Casella Waste Services through a host community agreement. The money currently eliminates the town tax levy and helps cover up to half of the county property tax bill for residents.
Town Supervisor Rosalyn Grammar has started financial workshops to plan for life after the landfill. Another session is scheduled for March 9 at the town municipal building as officials explore future options.
