A Rochester man with a prior federal conviction is facing a new charge after authorities say he possessed ammunition while on probation.
Federal prosecutors say 22-year-old Legend Davis was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of ammunition.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York, Davis was previously convicted in September 2024 of possessing a postal key and theft of mail. He was sentenced to three years of probation and is legally prohibited from possessing ammunition.
Investigators say the case stems from a Dec. 16, 2025 incident in Rochester.
Police responded to a report of harassment after a caller told officers a car carrying several people arrived at a residence, honked the horn, and called for someone to come outside.
The caller reported Davis was in the vehicle and made threats while gesturing as if he had a firearm.
Following the incident, U.S. Probation officers conducted home visits at Davis’ Rauber Street residence on Dec. 16 and again on Jan. 21.
During one of the visits, officers asked Davis whether he possessed anything he was not allowed to have. Authorities say he admitted he had ammunition in the home.
Officers then located nine rounds of ammunition.
Davis appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark W. Pedersen and was ordered held pending a detention hearing.
If convicted, the charge carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Federal officials note that a criminal complaint is an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
