Meeting planned after Cayuga Nation eviction

A community meeting in Ithaca will address the recent eviction of a Cayuga Nation citizen and the broader dispute involving Cayuga Nation leadership.

Gayogoho:no’ Traditional Clan Families scheduled the meeting for Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Quaker Meetinghouse on Third Street.

Organizers said the meeting will focus on the Feb. 25 eviction of Amber Parker, a Cayuga Nation citizen, and her family from a residence by Cayuga Nation police.

According to organizers, Parker and her six children were removed from the home along with two dogs. Supporters who gathered at the scene were allegedly subjected to chemical spray and tasers by Cayuga Nation police.

The meeting is intended as a community question-and-answer session to discuss the incident and possible next steps.

Organizers said the eviction is part of a broader dispute involving Cayuga Nation leadership and residents who oppose Clint Halftown, the federally recognized representative of the Cayuga Nation.

Advocates and community members are expected to discuss the situation and potential responses during the meeting.
