Great Northern Mall demolition nearing

Bulldozers could soon start tearing down most of the Great Northern Mall in Clay as redevelopment plans move forward, according to WSYR.

Property owner Guy Hart said demolition may begin within two weeks once National Grid caps the gas lines. Crews could remove the entire mall within two months, though a few buildings will remain, including the former Dick’s Sporting Goods space and nearby businesses like Dunk & Bright Furniture.

Developers envision replacing the mall with a “lifestyle center” featuring shops, apartments, hotels, and a medical campus planned by Upstate Medical University. Hart said the project’s location near the future Micron facility makes the site especially attractive.
