Weatherup jumps into open CNY Assembly race

An open Assembly seat in northern Cayuga County now has its first contender. Oswego County Legislature Chairman Jim Weatherup entered the 120th District race, according to The Citizen, after Will Barclay announced he won’t seek reelection.

Weatherup, a Republican from Central Square, is pursuing the GOP and Conservative lines. He plans to launch his campaign Tuesday in Fulton. He previously served as Hastings town supervisor and now leads the Oswego County Legislature.

He says he’ll focus on affordability, agriculture, infrastructure and public safety while pushing for rural upstate priorities. So far, no other candidates have filed for the seat. Republicans hold a 2-to-1 enrollment edge in the district.
