Dryden burglary report leads to meth charge

A reported burglary in progress in Dryden led to a methamphetamine possession charge after Tompkins County deputies encountered a man near a commercial property, officials said.

Deputies responded around 11:24 p.m. June 28 to a residence on Dryden Road after receiving a report that multiple suspects armed with firearms had been involved, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies did not find anyone at the residence when they arrived. Moments later, they saw a person on foot near a commercial property at 7 Yellow Barn Road.

The person was identified as Christopher J. Capalongo, 39, of Dryden. Deputies said Capalongo appeared to be under the influence and requested transport to a local hospital for medical care.

During contact with deputies, Capalongo voluntarily turned over a baggie containing a white crystal substance that he identified as methamphetamine, officials said. The substance later tested positive for methamphetamine.

Capalongo was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was issued an appearance ticket for Dryden Town Court on July 27, and medical care was provided after the incident.
