A group of local volunteers made sure one Penn Yan child no longer has to sleep on the floor.
The NY-Auburn chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace teamed up with the Penn Yan Agriculture and Future Farmers of America Chapter on Feb. 14 to deliver its first bunk bed to a local family in need.
The effort officially launched a Penn Yan delivery hub for the NY-Auburn chapter. Volunteers built the bed just two days earlier during a Feb. 12 bed build event at the school.
Working with the Yates County Department of Social Service, the group identified a family who needed help with a bunk bed for their children. The delivery team brought the newly built bed to the home within 48 hours of construction.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace focuses on a simple mission: “NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN!®” The nonprofit builds and delivers handcrafted twin beds and bunk beds to children ages 3 to 17.
Volunteer teams coordinate with families who apply for beds. They deliver, assemble, and install the beds, complete with new mattresses, bedding, and pillows.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and continues to expand its impact across the country. Families and case workers can apply for beds through the organization’s website.
