Reliant saves members $10M on auto loans

Reliant Credit Union says it helped members save more than $10 million in auto loan interest last year.

The Sodus-based credit union announced that 1,829 members refinanced high-rate auto loans with lower-rate Reliant loans in 2025, saving a combined $10 million in interest over the life of those loans.

That breaks down to an average savings of $5,501 per member, with some members saving even more.

The milestone marks a major jump from just five years ago. In 2020, Reliant set a goal of saving members $1 million in auto loan interest through refinancing loans held at other institutions. The credit union surpassed that goal in 2020. By 2024, it reported saving members more than $3.5 million in auto loan interest.

In 2025, Reliant exceeded its original $1 million goal by a factor of ten.

Reliant’s auto loan refinancing program allows members to lower their monthly payments, reduce interest rates or shorten their loan terms by transferring existing loans from other financial institutions.

“By taking the time to understand each member’s situation, we’re able to deliver solutions that have a lasting impact,” said Michael Miller, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management. “The dollars our members save through refinancing their auto loans translate into greater flexibility, less financial stress, and more freedom to focus on what matters most in their lives.”

One member who refinanced in 2025 described the process as quick and simple.

“Refinancing my auto loan to a lower interest rate is really saving me money. The process was fast and I was approved in minutes,” the member said.

Miller said the credit union focuses on more than loan volume when measuring success.

“We’re proud of the impact this program continues to have,” he said. “We don’t measure success by loan volume alone; we measure it by the real financial progress our members make. These results show just how powerful that approach can be.”
