Yates County pushes back on SNAP rules

Veterans, homeless residents and young adults aging out of foster care must now log 80 work hours a month to keep food benefits, according to the Finger Lakes Times.

Yates County lawmakers say new federal mandates under H.R. 1 expand work requirements and cut administrative funding for SNAP. The federal share drops from 50% to 25% in October, which slashes thousands from the county’s budget. Officials voted to send a letter to Claudia Tenney urging her to delay or reject the changes.

Leaders also warned that frozen or reduced funding for other aid programs could strain local services. Meanwhile, county health officials say New York will keep its current childhood vaccine schedule despite federal revisions.
