Advocates push statewide supportive housing funding boost

Housing advocates packed the state Capitol to demand more money for supportive housing as budget talks heat up, according to Spectrum News 1. The coalition warned Governor Kathy Hochul’s proposal falls short as homelessness pressures grow and federal funding faces uncertainty.

Advocates want a 4% increase to the state Supportive Housing Program, saying years of underinvestment left providers struggling. They also criticized the lack of new funding for the Homeless Housing Assistance Program and called for a 2.7% inflation adjustment for human services contracts to stabilize the workforce.

Supportive Housing Network of New York Executive Director Pascale Leone and Assembly Housing Chair Linda Rosenthal urged lawmakers to build on recent gains and protect vulnerable residents as negotiations continue.
