Wayne County swears in first woman judge

Wayne County made history as Jeannie D’Alessandro was sworn in as the county’s first female County Court judge. The milestone marks a first for the local judiciary and a major moment for representation in Wayne County’s courts.

D’Alessandro is a lifelong Wayne County resident who grew up in Macedon and now lives in Palmyra with her family. She brings nearly three decades of legal experience to the bench, with January marking 27 years since she began her legal career.

She started her career in 1999 at the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office before moving into private practice. During that time, she handled family law, criminal defense, and matrimonial cases, and also served as an attorney for children.

D’Alessandro later returned to public service in Wayne County as an assistant district attorney. Most recently, she served as first assistant social services attorney, where she prosecuted abuse and neglect cases. Her background gives her experience on both the prosecution and family law sides of the legal system.

“I am humbled and honored to be Wayne County’s first female County Court Judge,” D’Alessandro said. “I will work very hard every day to serve my county to the best of my ability and to ensure fairness, integrity and compassion in our courts.”

County officials say her swearing-in represents more than a personal achievement. It reflects broader progress and sets an example for future generations of women pursuing careers in law and public service.
