Montezuma first responder’s home destroyed by fire: Fundraising underway

Community members are rallying to support a Cayuga County EMT and her family after a fire destroyed their Montezuma home.

The fire broke out late Thursday morning on East Loop Road and caused heavy damage to the house. No people or animals were hurt, but officials say the home is a total loss. The cause remains under investigation.

The family includes Janet Snyder, an EMT with the Montezuma Fire Department who also assists several neighboring departments. Fire officials described Snyder as deeply dedicated to helping others and said she has long served the community without asking for anything in return.

Now, local fire officials are asking the public to return that support.

The Montezuma Fire Department is coordinating donations to help Snyder and her family recover from the loss.

Monetary donations can be made payable directly to the Snyder family. Donations may be dropped off in person at the Montezuma Fire Department.

Officials say all donations will go toward supporting the family as they work to rebuild after the fire.
