Felony weapon charges follow Rochester traffic stop

State police arrested a Rochester man on felony weapon charges after troopers spotted a handgun during a traffic stop on Portland Avenue.

Troopers stopped a vehicle near Dickinson Street on Jan. 16 after observing traffic violations. During the stop, they identified the front-seat passenger as Eric Gevon Moye Jr., 23, of Rochester, according to state police.

While speaking with Moye, troopers saw a handgun partially concealed in his jacket pocket. Police removed him from the vehicle without incident and recovered a loaded Taurus G2C 9mm handgun with a round in the chamber and additional ammunition in the magazine.

Troopers charged Moye with criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a C felony, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a D felony.

Police issued the driver traffic citations and released the operator at the scene.

Troopers processed Moye at State Police Rochester and transported him to the Monroe County Jail for CAP arraignment. A pistol permit check showed he does not have a valid New York State pistol permit. Police seized the firearm and ammunition as evidence.
