An Auburn woman faces felony and misdemeanor charges following an identity theft and credit card investigation.
Auburn police received a complaint Jan. 12 involving a credit card that was fraudulently opened and used, resulting in a financial loss of less than $1,000.
Investigators say the suspect obtained the victim’s personal information, opened a credit card without authorization, and made two ATM withdrawals, collecting money from each transaction.
Police identified the suspect as Carolyn Vargas, a 61-year-old Auburn resident.
Vargas was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fourth degree, a felony, along with identity theft in the third degree and petit larceny, both misdemeanors.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to police.
