City leaders are restarting talks that could reshape how workers get fired in Ithaca, according to Tompkins Weekly.
Mayor Robert G. Cantelmo plans to relaunch a stalled effort to study “just-cause” labor protections, shifting the focus toward public input and accountability. The move would revive discussions on limiting at-will terminations while weighing impacts on workers, small businesses, and the local economy.
The Ithaca Common Council is expected to form a special committee to gather research, hear public testimony, and explore possible legislation. No policy changes are imminent, but officials say the renewed process could set the stage for future action.
