A community meeting in Seneca Falls aims to shine a light on long-running internal disputes within the Gayogoho:no’ people.
Gayogoho:no’ traditional clan families will host a public Q&A Thursday evening to address what they describe as ongoing harassment and threats against members who oppose current leadership.
The meeting is scheduled for January 22 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at 35 Water Street in Seneca Falls.
Organizers say the gathering will focus on what they call injustices in internal Gayogoho:no’ matters. They say those concerns include encroachment on the self-determination of the Gayogoho:no’ Nation.
According to the release, United States government recognized representative Clint Halftown continues to evict, harass, and threaten Gayogoho:no’ citizens who do not support his leadership. The statement describes this behavior as ongoing for more than twenty years.
The release also states that Halftown has threatened “banishment.” Organizers say traditional Gayogoho:no’ protocols for banishment do not involve federal or state governments.
The Q&A format is intended to give community members a chance to ask questions and hear clarification about these issues directly from traditional clan families.
Sachem Sam George is listed as the media contact for the meeting. He can be reached at 585-307-2701 or [email protected].
