Gusty winds and lake-effect snow kick off the week across the Finger Lakes before rain, then a sharp return to winter cold.
Forecasters say changing systems will keep conditions unsettled through the weekend, with snow chances returning by midweek.
Monday brings wind and snow
Monday starts mostly cloudy with highs near the upper 30s. A passing weather disturbance boosts lake-effect snow, especially east of Lake Ontario.
Snow showers may also brush parts of the Finger Lakes and the Buffalo metro area. Gusty winds pick up through the day, with some areas seeing gusts over 40 mph, especially near Lake Erie.
Milder air arrives Tuesday
Temperatures climb Tuesday, with highs reaching the low to mid-40s. Skies stay mostly cloudy as strong winds continue, especially during the afternoon.
Rain becomes more likely Tuesday night as a low-pressure system moves through the Great Lakes. Higher elevations could see rain mix with snow late.
Midweek turns colder again
Wednesday stays unsettled with scattered rain and snow showers and highs still near the low 40s. Conditions change quickly Wednesday night as colder air pours in.
Rain showers transition to snow, and overnight lows drop into the low 20s.
Cold and snow chances late week
Thursday looks much colder, with highs struggling to reach the low 20s. Lake-enhanced snow showers remain possible, especially east and southeast of the lakes.
Friday stays cold and mostly cloudy, with highs in the mid-20s. The weekend brings slight improvement, with highs near 30 and a continued chance for scattered snow showers.
