A full slate of appointments, contracts, and policy decisions awaits Yates County legislators when they meet Monday afternoon.
The Yates County Legislature is scheduled to meet Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. at the County Office Building in Penn Yan, with remote access available via Zoom. The agenda includes more than 35 resolutions touching everything from public safety staffing to artificial intelligence policy.
Appointments and board business
Legislators are expected to vote on multiple appointments and reappointments, including members of the Yates County EMS Advisory Board, the Soil and Water Conservation District Board, and the Region 8 Fish and Wildlife Management Board. Several resolutions also address appointments to the Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board.
The meeting will also include an employee recognition ceremony and an Employee of the Quarter presentation.
Law enforcement and labor items
One resolution would authorize the sheriff to create and fill a new full-time deputy sheriff position, citing operational needs within the Law Enforcement Division. Another item asks lawmakers to ratify a tentative collective bargaining agreement with the CO 82 Corrections-Other unit covering the period from 2026 through 2030.
Artificial intelligence policy up for vote
Legislators are also set to consider adopting a new countywide Artificial Intelligence Use Policy. The policy outlines how county employees and elected officials may use AI tools, with restrictions on handling protected or confidential data and requirements for transparency and review.
Contracts, funding, and infrastructure
The agenda includes several contract approvals, including website hosting services, employee assistance programs, engineering services tied to broadband grants, and multiple agreements funded through opioid settlement dollars.
Lawmakers will also consider resolutions involving surplus equipment, fuel supply contracts, airport runway lighting work, and a series of budget transfers.
Solid waste plan hearing planned
One resolution would schedule a public hearing on the county’s draft Local Solid Waste Management Plan. If approved, the hearing would be held Feb. 9 at 1 p.m., with a public comment period opening earlier in February.
The meeting will include public comment periods near the beginning and end of the agenda, and an executive session may be called if needed.
