Bills sign kicker Matthew Wright to practice squad with Matt Prater’s availability in question

With kicker Matt Prater listed as day-to-day after re-aggravating his right quad injury and his status uncertain for Sunday’s wild-card matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Buffalo Bills added insurance at the position.

The Bills signed 29-year-old Matthew Wright to the practice squad on Tuesday. Wright has moved around the league this season, appearing in four games with three different teams. He made one field goal during a stint with the Tennessee Titans, converted an extra point in a game with the Washington Commanders, and was perfect in two appearances for the Houston Texans, going 4-for-4 on field goals and 2-for-2 on extra points.

Although Wright has primarily served as a fill-in kicker, he brings starting experience. He was Jacksonville’s full-time kicker in 2021, when he connected on 21-of-24 field-goal attempts in 14 games and made 13-of-15 extra points. For his career, Wright has been dependable when called upon, converting 60-of-68 field goals and 45-of-47 extra points.

In other roster moves, the Bills signed kicker Maddux Trujillo to a futures contract and released offensive lineman Richard Gouraige from the practice squad.
