Ovid burglary leads to drug arrest

Sheriff’s investigators arrested a man after a reported burglary in the Town of Ovid.

Joseph C. Lamb, 39, of Newark, was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 2, according to Seneca County Sheriff Timothy Thompson.

Investigators said Lamb forcefully and unlawfully entered a building in Ovid. The arrest followed an investigation into the incident.

Deputies later searched the vehicle Lamb was operating after securing a search warrant. Investigators said they found tools commonly used to unlawfully enter buildings and remove copper piping.

Investigators also seized suspected methamphetamine from the vehicle.

Lamb faces charges of third-degree burglary, possession of burglar’s tools, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Authorities arraigned Lamb in Centralized Arraignment Part Court. Officials said the court held him due to multiple prior felony convictions.
