Deputies make DWI arrest in Ovid

A traffic stop in the Town of Ovid led to a misdemeanor DWI arrest Wednesday night.

Seneca County sheriff’s deputies arrested a 61-year-old Pennsylvania man after spotting a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31.

Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Francis Winter of Lansdowne, Pa. Following an investigation, deputies took Winter into custody for driving while intoxicated.

Sheriff Tim Thompson said Winter submitted to a chemical breath test, which showed a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent.

Deputies also issued tickets for failing to stop at a stop sign and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Winter was released on an appearance ticket. He is scheduled to appear in Ovid Town Court on Feb. 24 to answer the charges.
