Yates County lawmakers wrapped up the year by approving contracts, budgets, pay schedules, and policy changes during a lengthy special session Dec. 22.
The Yates County Legislature met for just over an hour, passing dozens of resolutions that cleared the way for 2026 operations. Members also heard public concern about transportation gaps set to begin Jan. 1.
A resident raised concerns during public comment about the lack of a public transportation option at the start of the new year. Chairwoman Leslie Church said the legislature received the letter and is working on an interim plan.
Legislators unanimously approved several law enforcement and public safety agreements. Those included renewing federal equitable sharing agreements, approving medical reimbursement contracts for the county jail’s nurse practitioner and physician, and authorizing 2026 STOP-DWI services with FLACRA.
The board also approved multiple technology-related purchases and contracts. That included agreements with ePlus Technology for artificial intelligence training and server upgrades, along with a GIS data services contract with VHB.
One proposed item did not move forward. Legislators withdrew a resolution to adopt a county artificial intelligence use policy, though later approved funding for AI training and infrastructure work.
Several budget actions filled the agenda. The legislature approved end-of-year budget transfers and appropriated additional aid across community services, highway, and social services departments using new revenue sources. All votes were unanimous.
Lawmakers also adopted 2026 pay schedules for non-union exempt and non-exempt employees. The resolutions set salaries and hourly rates for a wide range of county positions, effective Jan. 1.
The session included contract approvals for legal services, lab testing for the district attorney’s office, and leadership development sponsorship through Leadership Yates County.
Following an executive session related to employment matters, the legislature returned to open session to approve final resolutions. The meeting adjourned at 2:06 p.m.
