Police arrested a man after officers responded to a suspicious incident on South Main Street early Monday morning.
The man, later identified as Jason Matthew Bunnell, was found in the roadway bleeding and acting strangely, according to police.
Officers began investigating around 7:22 a.m. after receiving the report. A neighbor told police where Bunnell lived and said a dog was inside the apartment.
Another neighbor then reported hearing loud “popping” noises coming from inside the residence.
Officers discovered a broken exterior window and conducted a safety search of the apartment. Inside, police found a deceased dog with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, multiple shell casings, and a firearm.
Police also located multiple bullet holes in the floor of the apartment.
The Geneva Police Department Detective Bureau assisted in obtaining a search warrant. Detectives later found several long guns and several handguns inside the apartment.
Police transported Bunnell, 52, of Geneva, to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Officers later released him into police custody.
Police charged Bunnell with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a Class C felony. Officers also charged him with reckless endangerment in the first degree, a Class D felony.
Police transported him to the Ontario County Jail to await arraignment.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Geneva Police Department or Detective Jordan Dobies.
