Clay, carving tools, and holiday excitement filled a Newark classroom as a high school art teacher teamed up with second graders, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Katy Broach invited students from Lincoln School into her Newark High School ceramics room, pairing them with advanced art students to create clay Christmas trees. The hands-on project let younger kids learn techniques while older students practiced mentoring.
Broach started the collaboration to build long-term excitement for art and strengthen the district’s program. She says early exposure boosts confidence, creativity, and connection across grade levels — results she calls the most rewarding part of teaching.
