Deputies arrested a Wolcott teen after a missing juvenile investigation took an unexpected turn late Monday night.
Jon D. Godkin, 18, of West Port Bay Road, now faces a charge of obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.
The case began with a report of a missing juvenile believed to be in the area of Godkin’s residence in the Village of Wolcott. Deputies responded and started searching for the child.
Investigators say Godkin intentionally withheld crucial information and gave deputies false details during the search. That misinformation, deputies said, delayed efforts to locate the juvenile.
Authorities later discovered the missing juvenile inside Godkin’s apartment. Deputies determined Godkin knew the juvenile was there.
The juvenile was found safe and turned over to her parents.
Deputies arrested Godkin and processed him at the Wayne County Jail. He received an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Village of Wolcott Court at a later date.
Deputies B. Profetta and M. Craine investigated the incident, which occurred around 11:09 p.m. in Wolcott, according to the sheriff’s office.
