Drivers in Ithaca will see higher parking costs starting early next month.
The city will roll out updated parking rates on Monday, Jan. 5, affecting on-street spaces and parking garages across Ithaca.
Hourly on-street parking in ParkMobile and electronic pay station zones will increase to $2.50 per hour. Coin-only meters, located farther outside the downtown business district, will remain at $1.50 per hour for now.
Parking in city garages—including Green Street, Dryden Road, and Seneca Street—will cost $2.25 per hour. The Cayuga Street Garage, managed by Premium Parking, will also charge $2.25 per hour.
Daily maximums will vary by location. The Green Street, Seneca Street, and Cayuga Street garages will cap at $12 per day. The Dryden Road Garage will have a higher daily maximum of $18.
City officials said the changes reflect growing demand for parking as events, shopping, and dining continue to expand.
“We are committed to ensuring equitable access to parking across Ithaca, particularly in high-demand areas,” said Deputy City Manager Dominick Recckio. He said the updates aim to improve the overall parking experience for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Mayor Robert Cantelmo said higher rates can also help local businesses. “Higher turnover means more spaces for short-term visitors and local businesses,” he said. He added that the changes support sustainability by encouraging walking, biking, and public transit.
The new rates are part of the city’s 2026 budget approved by the Common Council and will help maintain parking meters and garage structures.
