Rally planned in Sodus over ICE arrests

A rally and march are scheduled in Sodus following reports of two people detained by federal immigration agents.

The event will take place Sunday, March 22 at 4 p.m. at the corner of Main and Gaylord streets.

Finger Lakes Rapid Response Network and the Party for Socialism and Liberation-FLX are organizing the demonstration.

Organizers said the rally is in response to a March 14 incident in which two individuals were detained on West Main Street.

The group alleges the incident began as a traffic stop and involved local law enforcement and federal immigration officers.

Witnesses reported seeing multiple law enforcement vehicles at the scene, along with individuals taken into custody.

The rally will include speakers and will be followed by a march to the location where the detentions occurred.

Organizers said they are calling for an end to cooperation between local law enforcement and federal immigration authorities.

“Saturday’s ICE abduction in Sodus began as a traffic stop,” said Melina Ivanchikova of the Finger Lakes Rapid Response Network. “We have reason to believe that local law enforcement called ICE and held the men until ICE arrived in two unmarked vehicles. If true, Saturday’s immigration enforcement activity represents a flagrant violation of Sodus PD and Wayne County Sheriff Department policies.”
