Crews will soon tackle invasive plants across hundreds of acres at a popular Lake Ontario park, aiming to restore fragile habitats, according to state officials.
State officials plan a multi-year restoration project at Fair Haven Beach State Park, covering dunes, wetlands, forests, and shoreline areas. The effort will target species like Japanese knotweed and water chestnut while rebuilding native vegetation.
Backed by a federal grant, the $343,000 project runs through 2027 and aims to cut invasive coverage to under 5%. Visitors may see work crews and occasional closures, but the park will remain open during the improvements.
