Binghamton lawmakers moved to cut all city cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, according to WICZ.
City Council members introduced an ordinance that would block the use of city money, staff, buildings, and records for ICE operations. The proposal would also ban city workers from asking about immigration status or limiting services based on citizenship, unless the law demands it.
Supporters packed the meeting and highlighted a local asylum seeker detained by ICE since August. Advocates said the measure protects due process and ensures equal access to city services.
Council members voted 4–1 to fast-track the ordinance. The full council will take it up at Wednesday’s meeting.
