Rochester Gas and Electric has completed a major rebuild of its Mendon Gate Station, a $17.2 million investment aimed at ensuring safe and reliable natural gas delivery for 150,000 customers on Rochester’s east side.
Crews replaced all aging pipes and equipment at the station, which receives high-pressure gas and prepares it for distribution. The work wrapped just in time for winter.
Upgrades improve safety, pressure control
“The replacement of aging infrastructure makes it more reliable for customers, ensuring they have heat when they need it during the colder months,” said David Bovee, RG&E’s senior project manager for major construction.
Town of Mendon Supervisor John Moffitt thanked RG&E for the investment, calling it a strong commitment to safe, modern energy systems in the community.
The upgrades include:
- A rebuilt heater building to maintain proper gas temperatures
- A new regulator building to monitor and manage pressure
- Advanced SCADA and RTU technology, allowing crews to adjust gas pressure remotely and detect outages faster
The original station was built in 1993. RG&E said the rebuild was part of a prior approved rate case and is one of many projects focused on long-term energy reliability for customers in the region.
