Livingston County EMS paramedic earns statewide provider of the year honor

A Livingston County Emergency Medical Services paramedic has been recognized with one of the state’s top honors for advanced life support providers.

Meghan Kiefer of Livingston County Emergency Medical Services was named the New York State EMS Council’s Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year at the 2025 New York State Vital Signs EMS Conference in Syracuse. Kiefer has worked with the county’s EMS agency since 2017, beginning as an emergency medical technician and now serving as a paramedic.

Dr. Aaron Farney, medical director for Livingston County EMS, praised Kiefer’s dedication to patient care and professional growth. “Meghan is the epitome of an EMS professional, consistently embodying the qualities of a caregiver that the public truly deserves,” he said in a prepared statement. “She demonstrates an unwavering commitment to learning and growth, and this is reflected in her daily work ethic and clinical care.”

EMS Director Karen Dewar echoed that sentiment, saying Kiefer “exemplifies excellence in patient care, continuous professional development, and selfless service,” and called her a valuable member of the team.

Earlier this year, Kiefer was also recognized locally with the 2024 Advanced Life Support Provider of the Year Award from the Monroe-Livingston Regional EMS Council. That annual program highlights the efforts of EMS providers who improve prehospital care across the region.

The statewide honor was presented by the New York State EMS Council during the New York State Vital Signs EMS Conference.

Livingston County officials encouraged residents to learn more about EMS services by calling 585-243-7596. The county, founded in 1821, is home to more than 61,000 residents across 17 towns in the Finger Lakes region.
