Man in custody after Lyons standoff

Deputies arrested a Lyons man after a domestic incident escalated into a standoff involving a handgun on North Canal Street.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says David Tulley tried to stop a vehicle from leaving by punching the windows and attempting to get inside — while two adults and two children were still in the car.

Gun drawn in response to disturbance

Deputies were called to the scene after a report that the mother of a child involved in the dispute was attempting to take the child, when another man pulled a gun. When officers arrived, one man was detained and a small handgun was recovered from the vehicle.

Investigators say the man with the gun pulled it in an effort to defend himself and the others in the car from Tulley’s aggressive behavior.

Even with deputies on the scene, Tulley tried to open the driver’s side door again, causing more distress for the people inside. When deputies told him he was under arrest, Tulley ran into his home and tried to slam the door on officers.

Charges and court appearance

Tulley was charged with endangering the welfare of a child under the age of 17, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, and resisting arrest.

He was taken to the Wayne County Jail and arraigned later that evening. The New York State Police assisted with the investigation.
