New York to launch scam alert tool for seniors

Starting January, New York will offer a new text-and-email tool to help older adults spot scams before they lose money, according to Spectrum News.

The state is partnering with SilverShield to let users report suspicious messages or calls and get quick feedback. The move comes as financial scams against seniors rise—costing New Yorkers over 60 more than $257 million in 2024 alone.

Officials say AI-powered scams are getting harder to detect, and prevention is key to protecting life savings.
